Did you know in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the Isle of Man the abortion law is different from the law in England?
Very few Irish and Manx women meet the strict criteria to access local and legal abortion services. As a result, every year around 4000 women will travel hundreds of miles from the island of Ireland or the Isle of Man to England or Wales for their abortion. Often alone.
There are so many more women in Ireland and Isle of Man who are unable to travel – often because it’s simply too expensive. For the women who cannot raise the funds, choice becomes limited to either continuing the pregnancy, or risking their health and freedom by inducing an abortion themselves.
